We do this on a shoestring, as volunteers, so we’re ALWAYS short on time. Now, the most important thing for us to spend time on is the content, and then the design – that’s what you need to make a great magazine.

When people buy individual copies, it makes extra work for us. Okay, it’s just the simple stuff of addressing an envelope, sticking the magazine in it, getting stamps if we’ve run out, driving to the post office – but it takes time and it adds up. If too many people buy individual copies, we lose valuable writing and layout time.

But when people take out a regular subscription, it saves us time (because volunteers help send all the copies out once a quarter) and it also allows us to plan our cash flow better, so that we can advertise more.
