‘Ein Gwlad’ is a journal of Welsh Nationalist writing which seeks to provide a platform for a freedom of expression which others, less concerned with Wales and the well-being of the Welsh people, might prefer to suppress.
We speak to, and for,
those for whom Wales is everything;
those without whom Wales would be just an empty word;
those to whom Wales, its wealth and its opportunities, rightfully belong;
those who will one day unite to say,
EIN GWLAD!
‘For the earth that is more than holy
For the land that is OURS ALONE.’
Harri Webb
In the current edition:
Misunderstanding Nationalism
Why some people think that nationalism is a naughty word, and why they are completely wrong when it comes to Wales. If you’re tired of knee-jerk reactions from people who think that British Nationalism is normal but Welsh Nationalism is wicked, this article will come as a breath of fresh air.
Heartbreak in the Valleys
The Valleys spent most of the twentieth century in a passionate love affair with the Labour party – but now the Labour party has been flirting with power for so long, the Valleys are starting to get that broken-hearted feeling. What does the future hold? This article offers some unexpected answers.
How to change your Council
Here’s a challenge – if any Ein Gwlad readers can find us a county council in Wales that never breaks its own rules, we will eat a hat of your choice and make a 50p contribution to that council’s senior executives pension pot. If you’ve had enough of your council’s mistakes, this is an insurgent’s guide to making some changes. It’s easier than you might expect.
Credit Crunched Communities
Like a lot of other people, you might be asking yourself at the moment just how the biggest institutions in the world got it so very, very badly wrong, and why they’re getting bailed out by their governmental partners in crime while we have to tighten our belts to deal with the fall-out. This article looks at what really went wrong, and how we can stop them from stitching us up like this ever again.
The National Trust – selling Wales to defend England
The National Trust is busy pushing ahead with plans to sell off the last green space in Rhostyllen, near Wrexham, even though a majority of members who voted (instead of giving their votes to the Chairman, a dodgy deal which even Parliament doesn’t much like) called on them to stop. In the meantime, they’re spending money in England to defend green spaces. It’s been shown that living near green spaces is good for your health – so the Trust really are selling the people of Rhostyllen down the river. This article holds its nose and uncovers the real stench of the Trust’s ugly profiteering.
And other bits and pieces…
And, of course, our usual mix of irreverant caption competitions, letters in extremely poor taste, shameless plugs for radical causes, and a stubborn refusal to tug our forelocks to any master, be they in Cardiff Bay or Westminster.
If you’re proud of Wales, if you believe in Wales, you’ll enjoy Ein Gwlad.
